Last Day

WE HAVE REACHED THE END!! Ahhhhhhh!! I don't know what I am going to do with myself.  I have lived in this tent for a month, sleeping in my own bed maybe 5 times.  This is definitely a memory I will never forget and something I hope to continue doing for the next 3 years.  Tent 8 forever wooo!

So last night was the first night of Personal Checks! Maybe one of the most insane things I've experienced.  The fact that it was pouring rain all day yesterday and all night while we partied hard made it an unforgettable experience.  Everything is soaked and a messsssssss.  The Gigatent is ruined :( So unfortunate.  The door has ripped and the inside is currently a puddle.  Everything in Kville is a shit show though.  Not just tent 8.  Chiddy Bang played last night too!  However, I did not hear one song.  Opps.  It was still a good night though.  There were so many people out and about in Kville.  I cannot wait to repeat it all again tonight.  We must make our last night in Kville something to remember.

I am currently in line for the NC State game tonight at 6.  We did not get here until 2 though so we are not front row. Boo!! I have become a front row addict, so tonight is going to be bizarre.  It should be fun though!  Any game in Cameron is fun no matter the seat.  My parents are also on their way up here to attend the game as well!  I cannot wait to see them. I just wish my dad was able to see Kville on a day it wasn't so gross and messy looking.  The ground is literally a mud puddle.  I am stamping around in my rain boots all day.  It's gross.  I have also acquired a cold which sucks big time.  I am constantly blowing my nose and taking tons of medicine.  I guess it was inevitable after living in a tent for this long.  I am still sad it is almost over though.  If the gigatent makes it through tonight I vote we pitch it in Bassett common room and sleep in it every night.  It won't be the same but it will do.

So I guess I am also reaching the end of my blogging career.  How depressing.  I am really starting to get a hang of this thing.  It's quite entertaining. Ask Kyle, he enjoys it as well.  I still have Wednesday nights game to blog about though! The moment we have been waiting for is almost here!!! I can only image how insane that night will be.  Just a few more days to go!

It is time to focus on State though and show them whats up.  Here we go DUKE!!

Day 29. kyle likes to blog too

hello all, this is kyle filling in for coach on the blogging topic. i got home approximately an hour ago, and we went right to cookout. surprise surprise. then we had to hunt down jins sloppy ass. he was at ksig, then said he was going to bassett, then said the shell gas station, then said he was at dominos, then told us to pick up from bassett, and then told us he was residing in "blake wel". or maybe it was "black tower". whatever the case, i missed his sloppy ass. then we came back to home in kville and were greeted warmly by random tent 91 members. neil says he loves us, so i guess hes our favorite tent 91 member. then we played beer pong as tradition ensues, except it was smirnoff pong because everyone drank my bud light while i was gone. whores. it was sloppy. at one point, jin blocked a pussy bounce shot by narddawg, and fell on the ground. it was glorious. then he proceeded to give me a high five, missed, and knocked down all the cups on our side. SLOPPY. then he smoked his concentration kappa, and ran into me and got his ashes all over my dress clothes that im still chilling in and plan on going to class in tomorrow. SLOPPY. lets be honest, block 8 will probably be better without jin. just kidding i love him. a personal check alarm is currently going off, and katie hardiman is complaining like always. who knows where stephanie went, but who cares. blogging is fun, it gets all your emotions out while allowing you to use big words. thats what sam says. im just doing this jin is a sloppy whore. i got 592 in fruit ninja. thats pretty good. i didnt do my math homework. thats alright. coach plans on being the crazy towel girl, and is rubbing in the fact that they went on an excursion to the refectory without me. whores. but its okay, were going tomorrow. but dont ever forget....THE LIONFISH IS QUITE AN INTERSTING FLAVOR OF FISH. CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, LIONFISH DO NOT ACTUALLY RESEMBLE LION. IN REALITY, THEIR OUTTER SKIN (WHICH I MIGHT MENTION IS QUITE A RELAXING VACATION HOTSPOT) THIS PARTICULAR FISH DOES NOT ENJOY ROARING. IVE FISH. THIERVEMOMOUS SPIKES RESULT IN FUCKING PAINFUL STINGS THAT PUT YOU OUT SO HARD. COMPARED TO ALL ITS FISHY RELATIVES, THE LIONFISH IS AMONG THE MOST HARDCORE AND VENOMOUS. WITH MESSED WITH, THE LIONFISH HAS A NUMBER OF DEFENSIVE MECHANISMS TO FUCK SHIT UP.
THIS SHIT IS ALL UP IN THE CARIBBEAN.

Day 28. Windy

Today the weather was beautiful!! 70 degrees with a nice, yet deadly, breeze.  It was so deadly it was able to tear down the Gigatent.  And the Gigatent doesn't cave in for nothing.  I was stressing, but our wonderful engineers came to the rescue and were able to put the tent back together with some duct tape.  We are going to have to buy new poles for next year though.  I just hope it lasts through personal checks.

We are currently siting around watching the Maryland game on the road.  I've been nervous for this game all day.  Maryland away is always an intense game.  I do not want to bring it up, but going into this game after playing St Johns last weekend does not make me feel confident.  Singler is ballin it up baby!!

Last night I did not sleep in the tent for the first time in forever.  I was so tired from driving Kyle the night before at 5 in the morning that I stayed in Bassett last night.  Bad decision because then I was late for my 8:30 on west this morning.  Needless to say, I am sleeping in the tent tonight.  Gotta get to that Chem and Psych class in the morning. Hopefully the tent will withstand the night!

Game time! Let's go DUKE!!!

Day 26.

First of all,  I am going to start off saying that I do not even want to talk about yesterdays game.  We will not discuss this anymore.

So even though white tenting has started I have still slept in the tent every night so far.  I don't know how I am going to function without a tent for the rest of the semester.  I actually have to sleep in my dorm room.  Strange.  Last night tent 91 joined us in tent 8 and we had a sleepover.  Marshall and Harry decided to crash and watch 127 hours with me, Jin, and Grace.  That movie was insaneeee.  The best part is Aron Ralston comes to Duke to speak tomorrow. I am extremely fascinated by this man.  I cannot wait to hear what he has to say.

Yesterday the weather was beautiful! It was not cold at all sleeping in the tent until waking up this morning.  That part sucked.  We went from a beautiful 67 degree day to a cold 40 degree day.  Tenting would be a lot easier if it were warmer all the time.

Also, please sign Kenny's petition to stay in Bassett.  This is crucial.  Your signature will make a difference, guaranteed.

Day 24. Marine Mammal Day

Tent 8 took a field trip to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences today!  After another sloppy night we all woke up decently early and at 10 we hit up Bojangles and headed to the museum to experience the free marine mammal exhibit.  Everyone was pumped and ready to museum it, until we got to the Durham Museum of Life and Science and realized that was not the right place.  I am an idiot.  We had to be back at Kville to play in our 3-on-3 basketball game at 12:30 so we booked it back.

The game did not turn out as expected.  Per usual, tent 8 was a mess getting to the game and we started 8 minutes late.  According to the rules, the opposing team startedd the game with an 8 point lead.  Also the first half lasted only 2 minutes because we started late.  Eric, Kevin and I played against tent 27.  Shout out to Katie Shoemaker!!  They ended up beating us by 7.  Technically we won.  I'm just saying.

However, losing the game wasn't terrible because then we were able to journey to the right museum and experience the lovely marine mammals.  Myself, Kyle, Eric, Gabby, Kevin, Jack, and Jin all trekked the 30 minutes to Raleigh to go to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.  We enjoyed the day off campus doing normal people activities rather than the same college day weekend stuff.  We also went to Mellow Mushroom for dinner which blows Marketplace out of the water.  Except for Jin and his calzone.  His food didn't come out until the rest of us had already finished eating.  Opps.  It was still delicious though.  The day turned out rather fun and eventful, minus my whole driving situation.  That was the one thing not on par today.  It's all good though because last time I checked we did a head count and all of the tenting passengers were still alive.  That is what I call success.

Tonight will be a strange night in Kville because only 2 people are required to sleep out.  I shall be heading over there later after I do homework to watch a movie with Kyle.  I am excited to hear about the 3-on-3 tournament and to see all the white tents up!!

Day 23. Welcome White Tenters

Tonight was the night that the scavenger hunt for white tenters took place.  I aided the Bassett tent out in the scavenger hunt by offering my driving services where needed.  Esther and I drove throughout East campus following the clues to lead us to the end.  Fortunately,  Harry was a beast and turned his tents roster in at the final destination.  This means tomorrow night Tent 8 will most likely be having a mixer with Bassett Tent in Kville!

We also need to talk about last nights game!! Crazyyy fun!!  Front row stomachs painted is the best. We spelled out Go Devils Go! and we had the best seats in the house.  Duke dominated, no big deal.  Boston College is pretty good but all of our boys played awesome.  Seth knocked em down,  R Kelly made a presence, the Plumlees were rebounding machines, Nolan played sick, and of course Kyle always is a factor.

I also played pretty well last night.  My free throw shot was much better then Mason's thats for sure.  During half time I was asked to play in the knock out game on Cameron court.  Sickkkk.  I came in second though. Booo.

There also was a 6 am tent check this morning. It was miserable.  I stayed up until 3 waiting for them to do one and they never did so I went to bed and was woken up 3 hours later.  Those are the worst. Tonight is the last night of Blue Tenting and tomorrow it goes down to 2 people sleeping out every night.  I think it's safe to say that Tent 8 will most likely have more than 2 people sleeping out every night.  I cannot wait until the new white tents go out tomorrow though. Woo!!

Day 22. BC is going DOWNN

Today is the Boston College game. Get it DUKE!! All day we have been posted up in line to get front row for the game tonight.  There are 12 of us in line: Me, Kyle, Jin, Eric, Kenny, Josh, Steve, Grace, Caroline, Craig, Bernard, and Grace's friend Julia(?)  She is a pfrosh that has not been here all day.  She may possibly be the luckiest girl in the world.  It is not everyday that a high school student gets front row to a Duke basketball game without having to sacrifice many hours of her life.  If she doesn't come to Duke after this we have some serious issues.  Tonight we will be painted in front row of Cameron.  We will spell out Go Devils Go and Jin will be the devil.  Yayyy!!

My mom came to visit Kville today :) That was really exciting! I got to show her the Gigatent and what life in Kville is like.  I hope she doesn't disapprove of the sloppiness of tent 8.  I loved being able to show her around and introduce her to the people I have been living with for the past month.  She will be at the game tonight and I cannot wait to wave to her from front row!

Unfortunately, Kville is a complete mess and soaking wet from the rainy day yesterday. It is kind of gross and makes living on the sidewalk a little harder than normal.  Oh well.  Duke basketball is worth it.  We better dominate Boston College because I'm trying to get our number 1 spot back.  Needless to say, I am ready for this game!  Only 3 1/2 hours until game time. WOOO!!

I would also like to make a shout out to one of my favorite people and one of the most devoted Duke fans I have ever met, Gabby Hodgins!!! I miss you love and wish you were here with us!! It will not be the same in the front row without you my darling but I will wave to you and send you my love!! I love you and hope you are feeling better.  Tent 8 misses you!!!

Day 20. Slackinnn

Wow!  Time has flown by these past few days.  I have completely neglected my blog and haven't updated my wonderful followers in a while! I am so sorry everyone.

At least now I have some things to talk about.  Where should I begin?  Tonight is Tuesday January 25th and as a tent we decided to take the night off from sleeping outside and use our one free night of grace we received when the boys won the volleyball tournament.  We figured tonight was the best night to do this because tomorrow night we will start camping out for the Boston College game on Thursday and Thursday night is a game night so we will have grace for 2 hours after the game and then Friday we don't have to be back until 2:30.  Once Friday is over we start White Tenting and only 2 people have to be in the tent at night.  Tonight seemed like the most practical night to take off.  Eric was on duty from 10-11 and he picked up Only Burger for everyone while Gabby and I went on a Cookout milkshake run.  Such a healthy, scrumptious night in Bassett away from the rain and the cold.

Another important update about Tent 8: We received our first missed tent check because of the warnings we were given about plugging in electronics inside the tent.  The line monitors have warned us numerous times not to do it and the rule recently changed that extension cords are no longer allowed in Kville.  You must sit beside the wall to charge electronics.  However, some members of our tent were unaware of this new rule and used the extension cord during their tent shift.  John, the head line monitor, noticed this and gave our tent it's first missed check.  We have to be on top of things now.  One more mess up and we are bumped to the end! And right now there are currently 60 tents in Kville.  I am not trying to get bumped to the back of that line!! No sireee.  After pre-tenting and everything we have been through, tent 8 is staying right where it is.  Therefore, we have cracked down and created schedules the tent must follow in order to ensure the tent is occupied at all times.  No missed checks allowed!!  The good news is, come Saturday we move into White Tenting and we are given another warning to work with as well.  We just have to be extra careful until the weekend.  We can do this!

Some unfortunate news to share with everyone, I am not a sorority girl and went through the rush process only to fail in the end.  So unfortunate.  But it's whatever because I am going to be the best darn cameron crazy there is!!

I must say, I am relieved to not have to be sleeping outside in the pouring rain right now.  I am currently in my steaming hot room prepared for bed with all of my homework done ready to wake up and eat breakfast at the Marketplace, something I have been restrained from doing for a while.  Anyways, I must head to bed to wake up at 7:30.  With love, Sam

Day 17. Game DAYYYY

We play Wake today!! Time to kick some bootayyy.  Except I have round 4 of sorority rushing tonight during the game! That is a bunch of bullshittttt.  Seriously, who schedules this stuff.  So now I have to look all dressed up and pretty while missing the game.  So unfortunate.  I am ready for the rushing stuff to be over with though.  It's pretty exciting that tonight is the last night.  Big decisions to make tonight.  Oh geez.

Last night we got lucky and the line monitor called grace at 1 am because it was freezing.  Grace and Julie decided to stay at the tent but I came back to Bassett.  However, I did not get to enjoy my night off in my warm bed because Kyle passed out in my bed before I could even sleep in it. SLOPPY.  So I slept in Julie's bed.  Tent 8 is always a mess, whether we are at Kville or not.

Oh so 2 nights ago me, Julie, Jin, Eric, Colleen, and Grace all slept out and went to bed around 1.  The line monitors called a tent check at 3.  No one in tent 8 even heard the horn or the people outside our tent screaming at us to wake up.  It wasn't until a line monitor came INTO our tent to wake us up and check who was sleeping out.  Does that ever happen?  Tent 8 gets special treatment. Whuddupp!  Turns out we made the check and didn't even have to get out of our sleeping bags.  How perfect.

We are currently losing to Wake.  WTF.  Duke needs to pick it upppppp.  That's alright, Singlers about to take over :)  Let's GO DUKE

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Day 15.

I love this warm weather.  It is seriously never cold out here anymore.  I hope it stays like this for a while because living in a tent is so much easier when it's warm out.  I actually prefer having a tent on West because it is conveniently located next to everything.

Anyways, tonight in Kville they are showing a replay of the Duke Win over Kentucky in 1992 with Laettners epic shot.  Sounds like a party wooooo!! I love my basketball team and find myself more obsessed everyday.  But either than that, not much going on today.  My computers gonna die and they don't allow electricity to tents anymore so I am screwed. Better get this done! Goodnight

Day 14. Jin is the best

Game dayyyyy!! The Duke v NC State game is happening right now! Current score update 35-26. LETS GO DUKEEE.  We need to step it up and play like the number 1 team in the nation again.  Tonights game is a big improvement from the last few games we've had.  Ryan Kelly is so much better than people give him credit for.  I love the way he plays.

Last night was an interesting night in Kville.  Probably the sloppiest night yet.  People were a mess when they returned from rush events.  The sad thing is, they returned at 11:30 therefore they went harddddd.  I still love my tent though.  As long as I am able to wake up the next morning to make it to my 8:30 classes then I don't care what goes on in Kville the nights before.

Also, check out my shout out in the Chronicle.
http://dukechronicle.com/article/k-ville-soundoff
Thanks Colleen for the wonderful reference :)  I love my role as coach.

Anyways,  gotta watch the game.  Nolan just went down and I about shit my pants.  NOT GOOD! Hopefully he will be straight.  Can't have him and Kyrie out! He seems good and walking fine thank god.  It's time to tear some stuff up! Let's go DUKE!!

Day 13. Back at it

Today we went back to classes and a normal school day schedule.  It's been strange lately because I haven't felt like we have been at school the past week and a half.  I've decided life is a lot easier when sleeping in the tent because as it turns out I was late for my 8:30 Chem class on west.  I can guarantee I wouldn't have been late if I slept in the tent.  Anyways,  I enjoyed a long but exciting 5 hour tent shift because I'm hardcore. Whattupp!  I ended up getting work done and being productive for once. Score.  And I also had wonderful tent mates come and visit me.  What a wonderful day.

Tonight at dinner we also had a Tribal Council meeting.  It wasn't very effective though and as always we got nothing accomplished.  It is currently 11:00 at night and we are missing the last piece to our tent because tenter who must not be named is late to his shift because he is being super fratty right now.  Unacceptable Kyle Rand (and Bernard).  Hopefully they will not call a check soon!  Tonight is also trivia night but Gabby isn't here! I don't know what to do without her.  It is also a tent 8 calzone and anchorman night.  Woo! Fun stuff.  And it is also a club bball team partaaay now in Kville because Laurel and Anna just came to visit. Yay!  Goodnight followers!

Day 12. MLK

Happy Martin Luther King Day!  Today consisted of many hours in the library catching up on school work that had been tossed to the side for the insanely hectic weekend.  Living in a tent and attending rush events have made me almost forget about the schoolwork I have to do.  This week starts our first actual week of classes and the guys have rush events everyday so scheduling for the tent is going to be difficult.  Girls are going to be putting in a lot of night time hours so the guys can go live it up with the frats.  Kinda sucks.

Tonight is a weird night because it is my first night not sleeping in the tent in weeks.  I am currently in my dorm room alone studying chemistry alone with no noise and warmth.  Completely opposite of what living in the tent is all about.  It is nice to have the night off because I know the next week I will be living back in the tent.  There are currently 60 tents in Kville right now as many groups have begun blue tenting.  At night now we only need 6 people there.  This is good because today was a rainy day and the sides of the tent have leaked a little so now that only 6 people are sleeping there, a person does not have to sleep right up next to the wet edge.  I hope my friends are staying warm as we speak because I was getting pretty cold when I was out there.  I also think I am getting sick because I have been really congested lately.  (Mom don't freak out, I'm fine.  Nothing a little Musinex can't fix.)  Being in this warm dorm room should be good for that though.  Tomorrow morning I have to get up and start classes up again.  Chemistry at 8:30 and Psych right after.  Then I will be chilling in the tent all day.  It's bed time!

Day 11.

Oh my goodness this has been the longest weekend ever! So rush started Friday night preventing me from blogging the past couple of days.  Unacceptable I know.  Especially considering the fact that we almost lost to UVA! I almost died.  I had to miss the game for rush events so I was going insane as I received texts from people who were at the game saying we sucked and were losing and I almost had a heart attack.  We pulled it out though thank god.  We need Kyrie back SOON! I'm just tryin to go to Houston.  Roadtrip baby.

So Kville has been pretty insane lately.  Making this work with all 12 of us rushing is stressful.  But it's nothing coach can't handle.  I got this.  The boys are good about being there during the day while the girls are getting their flirt on with other girls.  It's all pretty eventful.  Friday night we didn't all need to be back until 2:30 and we all successfully made it after an eventful night out.  There was a tent check at 3. Kinda sucked.  However, it had nothing on the tent check last night at 5 in the morning.  Roughhhhhh.  After being asleep in my warm sleeping bag since 3 I was pretty upset I had to get out at 5.  So cold.  Oh well , it's all a part of the experience.

The past few days I have spent thousands of hours flirting with girls and doing this whole rush thing.  Surprisingly, I really am enjoying it.  It's a lot better than I expected and I am very happy I am doing it!  It's been a long few days but it's been fun.  I wish I had more time to blog though.  I am letting all my followers down.  Sorry guys.  I'll be sure to be on top of my game the next few weeks.  Tonight is smores night in Kville.  Its time for me to get to roasting those mellows.  I'm out.

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Day 8.

WE LOST :(

I still cannot believe it.  Last night we ended our undefeated streak and lost to FSU.  Geeeeeezzz.  If that game was played in Cameron with Kyle to hear me cheering for him we might have played a little better.  Our shooting was off and theirs was on.  It's alright though because its always better to play ranked as number 2 because the pressures off.  I still have complete confidence in us winning the ACC tournament and making our way to Houston!

Todays tenting went very smoothly.  Last night we had grace for the game and they ended up giving us grace for the whole night because by 12 when we would be getting back the temperature would be below 20 degrees.  It was nice to sleep in my warm bed, however, it is definitely easier to get to my 8:30s when I am waking up on west.  Tonight I hope they do not call grace because at 11:00 at night we have Inflatables coming to Kville until 1 in the morning.  I am trying to get my bounce house on of course.   It is supposed to get below 20 degrees though around 2 or 3 so they might call it anyways. Boo. I enjoy sleeping in the tent.

The boys started rush today.  The girls start tomorrow.  It is going to be interesting to see how this all works out.  I hope we can make it work.  I still can't believe I am rushing and missing the basketball game on Saturday.  Such a bummer.  I am going to miss our boys crushing the hell out of UVA.  I guess a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
Our Tent!
The hardworking boys and their well crafted base

 This tent blew away
And that's where it was supposed to be

Day 7. FDOC

Classes started today which means today is FDOC! First Day of Classes wooo!!  I started the semester off with a lovely 8:30. Yuck.  Good thing I made my semester schedule based on tenting.  Its probably easier to sleep in this tent and get to my 8:30 on west on time rather than sleeping on east and busing over.  My English seminar is great!  Robots, Puppets, and Zombies! Can't beat that.  And the homework requires blogging, which I am already a pro at obviously.  I am already a step ahead of the game.  Waking up and getting ready in Wilson Gym was a lot easier than I thought.  So far everything has been going pretty smoothly.  I was able to do some things in my room earlier and mingle with some Bassetters which was nice.  Spanish class was easy, however I miss my old class.  This teacher seems awesome though.  Now I am currently in the tent with Jin hanging out.  It is a very windy day and the tent next to us blew over.  How unfortunate.  Gabby said ours blew over a little bit earlier but I think that was a one time thing.  I hope so at least.

Keoni and Jacks tent set up last night!!! Wooooo!!! I was so excited :) They are our new neighbors!!  It's interesting how cold they all were last night because our tent is not having any problems staying warm.  What would we do without the Gigatent?

Also, great news! My video is up! Check me out on Duke Blue Planet. HAYYYY DOUBLE S.
http://www.dukeblueplanet.com/default.asp

I've taken a lot of pictures of tents but I found this one on Duke Blue Planet that shows the tents after the snow day from Coach Ks office.

Here is a pic of our tent:

Day 6. Woooooo

WE GOT A TABLE!! And our tent withstood the storm!  Kyle won every stupid card game we played.  Kyle Rand, not Singler.  The whole world was an ice cube when we woke up and some man broke our extension cord.  Everyone is back in Bassett!!! I am so excited. Everything is normal again.  Now we can have visitors come visit our tent.  Also, we have neighbors! Shout out to tent 22! Whuddup!  Marketplace opened.  This is good news.  Other than that, not much happened today.

We start class tomorrow so I have been scheduling a lot lately.  I hope everything works out tomorrow and we don't fail on the first day.  Also, tonight is SHOOTERS!!!!!!!!!!!! But I can't go.  So unfortunate.  We have penguins in the tent.

Monday, January 10, 2011

Day 5.

It is coldddddd.  Apparently tonight we are supposed to get 4 inches of snow.  I am hoping they call grace and we don't have to sleep in it!  Today has been a weird day because the campus is pretty dead and there is nothing to do.  Our tent is pretty legit though and the guys brought a lot of food back to store.  We are set.  Literally, today is pretty boring and low key.  The weather is gross and cold making it hard to function in the tent.  I am currently sitting in Grace's nice warm dorm as we schedule for the remaining week ahead.  Classes start on Wednesday so we must get prepared.

Here is a little bit of exciting news.
Last night I was front row of the Maryland game. Insane, I know.  As we were making the comeback towards the end of the second half I experienced one of the greatest moments of my life.  After a timeout Kyle Singler was walking towards me to take the ball out of bounds.  As he approached he glanced up into my eyes.  He looked down, but quickly glanced back up!  He did a double take.  I died.  Not only did I have a moment with the love of my life, but Duke went on to win the game.  Such an incredible night.  This is why I am obsessed with this university.

Anyways,  last night was the first night sleeping  in the tent and it wasn't too bad.  It was fun hanging out with everyone in Kville and mingling with other tent groups after the game.  We had a tent check at 2 am and Gabby and Eric were the 2 people that didn't sleep out for the night.  Oh also more exciting news!  Our tent is complete now that Grace has arrived! Boy did I miss her.  All 12 of the Camping Crazies are finally reunited.  And we are ready to take on this winter storm that we are supposed to get tonight.  Bring it!

The delicious lunch the guys made for us today.

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Day 4.

We BEAT MARYLAND!!! Today was a great day. We beat Maryland.  And our tent is up. And I am currently about to sleep in it at 2 in the morning.  I am not even cold.  What a good day.

We did not have to sleep in our tent last night because the temperature got below 20 degrees so the tent monitors called grace and let us sleep in our dorms.  However, we had to be back there at 10 in the morning.  The guys built a wonderful base and brought us Brueggars to eat.  How nice.  Our tent is sturdy and large.  It only took 5 hours to make. No big deal.  Today has been a wonderful day but it is late and I want to sleep.  Goodnight.

Day 3. Here We Goooooooo

Well, today was one of the most stressful days of my life.  This morning Kevin, Bernard, Eric, Gabby, Colleen and I ventured out to Kville in the early morning to claim our tent spot.  There were already 7 other tent groups there setting up their tents as well.  We choose to put ours up close to the sidewalk.  However, while every other group was pitching their tents, our group was napping in their sleeping bags being lazy because of the snow that was falling.   We also did not have our tent because my grandpa was delivering it to us at 11:30.  Papa Steve really came to the rescue today when he helped us figure out the logistics to make the base of our tent.  He helped transfer pallets and plywood and provided us with many of the materials we would need for tenting.  Gosh I love that Papa Steve.  Long story short, we finally got our tent up many hours later after losing the instructions multiple times and almost dying of frostbite.

I am happy to say this long day is almost over and I have successful unpacked all of my clothes into my dorm room.  Many of us are currently here enjoying the warmth of our huge 18x12 gigatent.  Everything will be wonderful once Julie and Kyle return from the land of Pittsford and complete the number of people we need to meet our tent check.  Leave it to those two to cut it close.  I am so excited for all of the Camping Crazies to be reunited though. Too bad Grace Face won't be here until tomorrow night :(  We all miss her greatly.

Unfortunately I do not have many pictures from today because it was very chaotic but tomorrow I will post many of the tents in Kville.  Stay classy tent 8.

Day 2. ughh

Today has been a long and cold day so far.  I am out here all by my lonesome representing my tent with pride of course.  It is definitely a lot more boring when there is not another fellow tenter to share this day with.  Unfortunately, my morning started off in a panic as I realized my phone wasn't charging at night and had died causing me not to wake up to the alarm clock and almost being late to my second day of tenting.  How unacceptable!

Good news, I made it here on time.  Bad news, I had to sit next to the outlet in the mulch in the shady colder area than in my sleeping bag in the sun.  I managed to sleep off an hour or so but not enough to make time pass any quicker.  My friends are jerks and won't come out and keep me company. (Kevin, Eric, and Bernard!) So I have started watching the tv show October Road on Hulu.  Strange thing is, I've been here since 9 and it is currently 1:30 and we have not had a tent check yet.  This is very upsetting because this means I have not had an hour of grace to go get lunch or take a break.  Good thing I go to the greatest university with the greatest basketball team and the greatest basketball coach of all time.  Coach K came to the tenters rescue today when he unexpectedly ordered us a bunch of pizza from Dominoes.  What a great man that Coach K is.  Our lunch problem was solved as we all sat around indulging in yummy pizza.

But now I am going to go back to watching tv on my computer and sleeping in my warm sleeping bag with gloves on because my hands are freezing.

Day 1.

This very cold and rainy morning Gabby and I arrived at Kville at 9:00 am to claim the spot for tent number 8.  As disappointed as we were last night to find out we would not be in the top 4 tents, this morning we began to feel better in our claim of tent 8.  We have met some friendly fellow pre-tenters who have taken us under their wing in learning the rules and life of a successful Kville Tenter.  So here are some of the rules of Pre-Tenting:
  • It started on Monday January 3rd (all 7 tents before us got here on this day) and lasts until Saturday January 8th.
  • One person must be present in Kville to represent their tent from 9 am-5 pm.
  • Throughout the day there are multiple tent checks.  The line monitor comes by and makes sure there is one person from each tent there or else that tent receives a warning.  After your first warning you and kicked to the back of the line.
  • After the line monitor does a tent check they may or may not give grace for an hour.  Usually they will come by around lunch time to give us grace to get some food.
  • There are no tents allowed during Pre-Tenting.  We, however, brought tarps and sleeping bags to lay on the ground as well as chairs and blankets to keep warm.
So far, after my first few hours as an official Krzyzewskiville tenter I have learned a lot and enjoyed my experience.  The day has warmed up, Gabby and I indulged in a tasty meal from the Refectory and we have caught up on a few hours of sleep.  I also can't forget the random strangers who have asked us to take pictures with them and inquired about why the heck why were camped outside.

With only 3 hours left I have a strong, confident feeling about this tenting experience.  It has been something I have looked forward to doing since I was a little girl and it seems unreal that I am actually participating in it as we speak.  I hope this feeling of excitement will last the whole month that I am living out here!
